About Us

R.M. Shannon Wealth Management is founded on the belief that wealth management starts with truly knowing our clients. As such, we offer exceptional service to select clientele.

With a full understanding of your situation, lifestyle, family, priorities, and goals, we then help you use your wealth for the things in life you value most. This is growing and using wealth according to your values.

We are an independent, fee-only registered investment adviser with no ties to any one financial institution—differentiating ourselves from employees of banks, brokerage firms, and insurance companies. We do this to assure an objective position with no incentive to sell anything or invest in a certain fund. We believe that by being truly independent, we can see the best ways to serve you. This reduces conflicts of interest and assists us in getting to know our clients. We are here to do with a client’s wealth what is best for her or him.

Wealth Management

More than just offering recommendations for how to invest, true wealth management involves all facets of your financial life. It coordinates discretionary investment management with cash flow, tax planning, legacy planning, and risk management. This necessitates working closely with your accountant, attorney, banker, insurance agent and other professionals. We believe true wealth management is delivered by professionals working within a fiduciary capacity.

Fee-Only

R.M. Shannon Wealth Management is compensated only by fees paid directly by our clients. We do not receive commissions from selling investment products, insurance products, or receive revenue from any other sources which would come with an inherent conflict of interest.

Fiduciary Capacity

In short, fiduciary capacity means a legal obligation to act in the client’s best interest.  A century of legislation and judicial rulings have honed the benchmark.  It is the standard by which CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioners operate.  It may be surprising, but not all financial professionals operate within these parameters.  Other financial service providers may work under a less stringent “suitability standard.”  To learn more about this distinction, visit: https://www.sec.gov/spotlight/invadvcomm/iacmemofiduciaryduty.pdf

The designation following my name means I am trained to manage a client’s wealth in areas of portfolio & risk management and planning for taxes & personal legacy. Beyond this designation, I believe my job starts with getting to know my client. Familiarity with your career, family, priorities, and goals will show me how to best put your assets to work. I have been doing so in the Twin Cities area since 2005 upon my graduation from the University of St. Thomas. I live in Saint Paul with my wife Anka and our three children Mira, Lucey, and Dominic.
